One of the things to consider when traveling overseas which is often overlooked is health insurance for international travelers. Before getting international health insurance, it is important to understand the health care policies of the country you are going to. Depending on where you are traveling, you may not need health care at all, or in actual fact you maybe required to buy comprehensive international health insurance.

For example when I traveled to England, I had no need for international health insurance. England is great, most of Europe is for that matter. I actually got a serious flu while I was there. It started off as nothing, but soon I was so sick that I could barely move. That was how dehydrated I was. I thought that I would be a goner without international health insurance. I figured that no one would give me medical care. To say I was surprised by the treatment that I got was an understatement. Despite my lack of international health insurance, I was hospitalized and treated very well in a top-notch hospital.

When I was traveling in South America however, things were very different. Again, I didn’t get international health insurance coverage and I regretted it big time. Health care conditions are very poor there so it just goes to show you should be prepapred in case of an emergency. Have a great time whilst holidaying, but you never know when something could go wrong, and when you are in an environment you are not familiar with, you want the best health care treatment possible.
